A new report from Trend Micro Inc., a cybersecurity solutions provider, highlights the lack of consistent cybersecurity measures across organizations worldwide. The research shows that only 36% of organizations have 24/7 cybersecurity coverage, a factor in managing digital risks.

“Without clear leadership on cybersecurity, companies often make reactive and inconsistent decisions,” said Bharat Mistry, technical director at Trend Micro. “It’s essential for chief information security officers (CISOs) to communicate business risks effectively to engage leadership and ensure continuous monitoring of threats.”

Trend Micro surveyed 2,600 IT leaders across various industries. The study revealed that a significant number of organizations struggle with basic cybersecurity practices, such as monitoring their digital attack surface. Only 35% use proven methods to assess risks, and just 34% rely on established frameworks like the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.

Many respondents expressed concern over the lack of leadership accountability. Half of those surveyed (48%) indicated that their leadership does not take responsibility for cybersecurity. This lack of direction has resulted in inconsistent approaches to managing cyber risks, with 54% of respondents noting fluctuations in their organization’s risk management.

Nearly all respondents (96%) shared concerns about their company’s ability to identify and address high-risk areas. “Companies need to work from a single source of truth to monitor risks and automate remediation for improved resilience,” Mistry said.
