Trend Micro recently hosted its 8th annual cybersecurity conference, DECODE 2024: Fusion Forward, attracting over 1,100 participants. This year’s event, held in September, brought together IT and cybersecurity professionals for a day of networking, expert-led talks, panel discussions, and hands-on activities focused on the future of cybersecurity.
Alma Saturnino-Alvarez, Trend Micro’s Director for Threat Research and founder of DECODE, expressed her gratitude for the event’s growing support. “From 500 attendees in 2017 to over a thousand this year, we remain committed to advancing cybersecurity in the Philippines,” she said.
DECODE 2024 offered 24 track sessions, including topics like AI-assisted cybercrime and automotive security. The event highlighted how fusing technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, can bolster defenses against various cyber threats.
One of the most attended sessions was led by VicOne, Trend Micro’s subsidiary specializing in automotive cybersecurity. Attendees learned how hackers could exploit electric vehicles’ infotainment systems and radio frequencies to gain unauthorized access, emphasizing the growing need for security in the automotive industry.
The afternoon featured a panel discussion with global cybersecurity experts, including representatives from Interpol and Trend Micro. Topics ranged from the impact of generative AI and deepfakes on cybercrime to the importance of consumer education and awareness in safeguarding against data breaches.
Closing the event, Ryan Flores, Trend Micro APAC’s Senior Manager for Threat Research, urged attendees to apply the day’s learnings to improve their companies’ systems, stressing the value of ethical, secure innovation.
