The United Nations (UN) has declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. This landmark announcement aims to recognize the significant role quantum science has played over the years and to spotlight its importance for future technological and sustainable development.
Quantum science, the study of matter and energy at their most fundamental levels, has revolutionized numerous fields, including physics, chemistry, materials science, biology, and information technology. Its principles have enabled breakthroughs in computing, communication, and a wide range of modern technologies.
“Participation in the International Year of Quantum signifies our commitment to innovation, capacity-building, global collaboration, and raising awareness of quantum technologies among Filipinos as early as possible,” said Bobby Corpus, president of the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP or also known as OneQuantum Philippines).

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology is set to be a year-long celebration.

The Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines sees this as an opportunity to bolster its efforts to make quantum education accessible to more people. The group plans to expand its activities, including lectures, webinars, hackathons, and volunteer opportunities, to foster wider adoption of quantum technology across the country.
The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology coincides with the 100th anniversary of the advent of modern quantum mechanics, a milestone that highlights the profound impact of quantum theory on modern science and technology. Over the past century, quantum mechanics has not only transformed our understanding of the universe at the atomic and subatomic levels but also laid the foundation for the development of many technologies integral to daily life.
