Telecommunications company Globe, in partnership with Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), has launched the Digital Horizons for Out-of-School Youth (OSY) program to help young Filipinos gain basic digital literacy, athletic, and leadership skills.

The initiative, which draws on WMSU’s expertise, aims to give participants practical knowledge to take part in the digital economy. A total of 40 out-of-school youth and 117 WMSU students, faculty, and staff joined the first run of the program.

“These initiatives reflect Globe’s deeper purpose to extend care, connectivity, and opportunity to every Filipino,” said Aldwin Mahusay, assistant director for HR Business Partner for VisMin at Globe. “Whether it’s empowering youth or restoring our environment, we are committed to building a future where no one is left behind.”

Globe also brought its GT Coop CAREavan to WMSU’s College of Social Sciences and Public Education, engaging more than 150 students, faculty, and staff in a day of learning and volunteer work. The event included the Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), which discussed responsible online behavior, cyberbullying, and telecommunications basics. A turnover of shoes and whistles was also held as part of Globe’s support for youth development.

In a separate effort, Globe volunteers worked with fisherfolk and local leaders in Misamis Oriental to launch the Coastal Digital Roots initiative. They planted 917 mangrove seedlings in Barangay Baybay, Alubijid, to help protect the shoreline and promote community resilience to climate change.
