The Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) is celebrating the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQST) in 2025, a milestone marking 100 years since the founding of quantum mechanics.

Werner Heisenberg’s 1925 work on matrix mechanics laid the foundation for quantum theory, which has since revolutionized our understanding of the atomic and subatomic worlds.

The United Nations declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum to highlight the global impact of quantum science on technology and sustainable development. This initiative aims to raise awareness of the benefits of quantum science, which influences technologies used in daily life, such as semiconductors in electronics, lasers in medicine, and MRI machines. It also plays a role in innovations in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and more.

Quantum mechanics has transformed computing, healthcare, and communications, and it will continue to drive innovation in material science and beyond.

Quantum computing, in particular, promises to bring about advancements in various industries, including banking, logistics, and telecommunications. With its ability to solve complex problems far faster than current supercomputers, quantum computing is expected to create new possibilities for technology.

The QCSP, which was founded in 2017 as Quantum Computing Philippines, is dedicated to promoting awareness and understanding of quantum technology. The organization has grown from a small group of enthusiasts into a non-profit group of professionals, researchers, and students. Its work includes organizing meetups, hackathons, and educational programs.

To celebrate the International Year of Quantum, QCSP is introducing an educational initiative to teach elementary and high school students about quantum computing. Through this program, the organization aims to make concepts like qubits, superposition, and entanglement accessible to younger generations. The goal is to prepare Filipinos for the future of quantum technology.

QCSP’s efforts are supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and universities across the country. These partnerships are essential in advancing quantum education and research.

As part of the global movement, QCSP encourages students, professionals, and organizations to get involved. Those interested can stay updated through QCSP’s Facebook and LinkedIn pages.
