Global technology brand Honor introduced two groundbreaking on-device (artificial intelligence) AI technologies to improve user safety and well-being.
During the keynote session at MWC Shanghai 2024 titled “The Human-AI Synergy: Intelligent Devices Will Empower People Better,” Honor highlighted its commitment to human-centric AI with the launch of AI Defocus Eye Protection and AI Deepfake Detection.
In response to the rising cases of nearsightedness linked to prolonged screen use, Honor presented its AI Defocus Eye Protection technology, which mimics the effect of defocus glasses directly on a device’s display. Defocus glasses create a controlled blur in the peripheral vision, helping maintain clear central vision and slow the progression of myopia, or nearsightedness.
Honor’s on-device AI solution takes this concept a step further. The AI Defocus Eye Protection technology shows the ability to reduce transient myopia by an average of 13 degrees after 25 minutes of reading, with some users experiencing reductions as high as 75 degrees. This marks a significant shift from merely preventing eye strain to actively alleviating it.

Combating digital fraud with AI
Honor also unveiled its AI Deepfake Detection, designed to address the growing concern over deepfake technology. This AI tool analyzes visual details such as eye movements, lighting consistency, and video playback to identify potential deepfakes that might escape human detection.

The AI Deepfake Detection system has been rigorously trained on extensive datasets of digitally altered content and online scam footage. It can flag suspicious content within three seconds, alerting users to possible fraud. This rapid response feature aims to protect users from engaging with deceptive or harmful content online.
During the keynote, Honor reiterated its commitmet to privacy and the empowering potential of AI-enabled devices. These new technologies showcase Honor’s vision of enhancing user safety and health through innovative AI solutions.
